WOMEN READING ALOUD offers writers a supportive community. From larger special events where writers gather to read their work aloud, to workshops where they write spontaneously, to retreats and special events, WRA provides a warm atmosphere conducive to exploration and discovery. Our goals are for participants to learn something new, to affirm their own writing lives, and to face the blank page with renewed spirit. WRA continues to increase its selection of writing workshops with an eye towards what the writer needs in today's market. Although WOMEN READING ALOUD is not a membership organization, we recognize that a comaraderie develops when writers commit to a series, a weekend retreat, or a critiquing salon. In 2011, WRA expanded its Writing and Yoga program and also spread its reach across the ocean. In June, 2012, Julie Maloney will return through WOMEN READING ALOUD to lead a writer's retreat on the eco--island of Alonnisos on the Aegean Sea in Greece. All workshops follow the Amherst Writers and Artists Method, setting the gold standard for writing in a "kula" - a community sensitive to energies given and received from the writing circle. Once a writer reads aloud, her voice automatically becomes part of the "imperfect" circle created by WRA for writing artists. |

Giving women the opportunity to find and hone their voices through writing AND to be heard in gracious settings – that is, indeed, lighting a candle to Truth and Beauty. --Hannelore Hahn WOMEN READING ALOUD welcomes writers with these words… This is what I learned: that everybody is talented, original and has something important to say...So remember these two things: you are talented and you are original. Be sure of that. I say that because self-trust is one of the very most important things in writing... |
